Suryakumar Yadav, born on September 14, 1990, in Mumbai, began his cricketing career in the streets and local clubs of the city. His father, Ashok Kumar Yadav, recognized his potential early and enrolled him in a cricket camp at the BARC colony in Mumbai. He later joined the Elf Vengsarkar Academy, where he received coaching from Dilip Vengsarkar. Suryakumar made his List A debut for Mumbai in February 2010 and his first-class debut later that year against Delhi in the Ranji Trophy, scoring 73 in his debut match, which was the highest score for Mumbai in that innings.

His domestic performances were consistent, with highlights including a double-century against Odisha in the 2011-12 season. He captained Mumbai in several matches in the Ranji Trophy and was a key player in Mumbai’s domestic triumphs, contributing significantly to their back-to-back Ranji Trophy titles.

Indian Premier League (IPL):

Suryakumar entered the IPL with Mumbai Indians in 2012, but his initial stint was limited, playing only one match where he was dismissed for a duck. He then moved to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2014, where he played until 2017, contributing to their championship win in 2014. However, it was upon his return to Mumbai Indians in 2018 that his IPL career truly took off. In 2022, he was the leading run-scorer for India in T20Is, scoring 1164 runs and clinching four centuries, which included a sparkling 117 against England at Trent Bridge. He was awarded the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year for both 2022 and 2023, reflecting his consistent performance.
